Dr. Henri de Bakker Awarded Honorary Membership of ISFRI
During the 12th General Assembly of ISFRI in Toulouse, France, Dr. Henri de Bakker was honored with an honorary membership of ISFRI in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of forensic radiology.
Dr. de Bakker, born on June 6, 1952, in Amsterdam, is the youngest of six children. His journey in the medical field began as a radiographer before he pursued a degree in medicine at VU University in Amsterdam. It was here that he met his future wife on the first day of college. They married in 1978 and graduated together in 1983. Henri then started his radiology residency in Leiden, eventually specializing in neuroradiology and becoming the head of the radiology department at the Green Heart Hospital in Gouda.
In 2000, a dinner conversation with his wife, a forensic doctor, and a forensic pathologist friend sparked the birth of forensic radiology in the Netherlands. Inspired, Henri attended the VIRTOPSY course with Prof. Thali and established a robust collaboration between the Netherlands Forensic Institute and the Green Heart Hospital. After his retirement in 2016, he authored a PhD thesis titled 'Forensic Radiology in the Netherlands'.
Dr. de Bakker's dedication to forensic radiology is further highlighted by his role as a founding member of ISFRI in 2012, and his consistent attendance at all ISFRI meetings worldwide since its inception. His lifelong commitment and pioneering work have been instrumental in advancing the field.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Henri de Bakker for this well-deserved honor.
